Digital Signage, Desktop Dashboards Boost Communication During COVID-19 at Port Jefferson (NY) EMS

Port Jefferson EMS, located in Suffolk County, NY, protects a population of approximately 30,000 citizens over 16 square miles.  Port Jefferson EMS first began their relationship with First Arriving back in 2017 with the launch of their new website. Since then, they have expanded their services to include the First Arriving Digital Dashboards.

“Operating an EMS organization with close to 200 career and volunteer members requires a multi-faceted approach when it comes to getting the message out,” explains Deputy Chief Michael Presta. “Our new First Arriving Digital Dashboards have given us an effective platform to relay critical information including active alarms, schedules, riding assignments, weather, and even policy highlights to our on-duty providers.”

Like many other departments and agencies, Port Jefferson was faced with communication and efficiency challenges among their personnel. “Before having our Digital Dashboard, we went through several different ways to communicate in the station, from dry erase boards to cork boards, and even in-person huddles,” says Presta. “Now the information is always current and displayed in an easy to consume format that the members enjoy.”

Communication became easy and effective for the organization which became especially important with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With information and policies changing almost daily, the Digital Dashboard has made getting the message out easier for both management and the providers,” explains Presta. “Agency leaders now can input COVID-19 response information onto the display instantly and our providers know it is a consistent place to get up to the minute information, helping them provide care safely.”
